My grandmother was Amy Rebecca Carter, born 1888 in Newchapel, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
She was the daughter of Herbert Carter and Mary Ann Austin. The Carters came mainly from Cheshire.
The earliest Carter that we have found was Joseph Carter, born about 1750 in Middlewich, Cheshire. His wife was Mary Pemberton.
Amy Rebecca’s second cousin twice removed, Samuel Carter, became a Mormon while in Liverpool. He and his family travelled by ship from Liverpool, and then on to Utah by wagon. See A Mormon Pioneer Family for more information about their experiences.
