Wedding Wednesday – Golesworthy and Dearing

The wedding of Frederick Arthur Golesworthy to Ada Dearing in 1932 in Hackney, London.

From left to right: Bridesmaid (unknown), Charles Leonard Reuby, Frederick Arthur Golesworthy, Ada May Dearing, possibly the bride’s father, Lilian May Golesworthy. The child is unknown.

Fred died only ten years later, when his ship HMS Arethusa was torpedoed escorting a convoy from Alexandria to Malta.

Charles Reuby and Lilian Golesworthy married in 1935 and were my husband’s parents.

Thanks to Jane for this photo.

Matrilinial Monday – Lilian Golesworthy

Lilian May Golesworthy was my husband’s mother. She was born on 5 April 1909, in Holborn, London, UK, and died in Ringwood, Hampshire on 4 February 1976 aged only 66 years.

Her parents were Walter Frederick Golesworthy and Lilian St John. In 1935 she married Charles Leonard Reuby in Hackney, London, UK.

They had two sons, my husband Peter Leonard, and his late brother, Terence Bramley Charles. Bramley is apparently a family name, but I haven’t been able to trace it to another family member yet.

Golesworthy Update

For those who think I’ve already broken my resolution, you’re wrong. I haven’t posted much for several days as I’ve been adding in the Golesworthy data sent to me by a member of another branch of my husband’s family.

Like my father, he has also spent over 40 years researching his family, and has got back to the 1700’s. So here’s a screenshot of the family tree of Walter Golesworthy, my husband’s grandfather.

I still have some data to add, and some dates to try and track down if I can, but  I’ve certainly been given a great present!

A Glut of Golesworthy’s

Thanks to an incredibly generous distant relative by marriage (he and my husband share a great-grand-father) who has been researching the Golesworthy family for 40 years, and who has shared relevant research with me, I have added three generations to that part of the tree, and corrected an error that I’d made with a marriage.

He also included a lot of relevant history and timeline info, which makes it all so much more interesting. Two smallpox epidemics wiped out all the Golesworthy’s in Honiton in the 1720’s and 1730’s – but they returned to repopulate the town in the 1740’s and 50’s.

I spent this morning digging through the census and BMD records, and have added in the basics. Now I just have to add in the other children, addresses, occupations, and update the main website.

Thanks, GG!
